Shingle Roof Replacement Options

Shingles have long been a popular roofing material selection because they offered building owners an inexpensive way to replace their aging roofs. Today's building owners have other options; however, that offer up advantages like longer lifespan and reduced maintenance.

Shingle Roof Replacement Options

Shing Roof Replacement OptionsWhile shingles are still one of the least expensive roofing materials up front, they have some severe disadvantages when compared with other options. For instance, asphalt shingles only last an average of 15-20 years and need regular maintenance and repairs, especially if the building is located in an environment that experiences extreme weather like heavy snow, hail, heat, or hurricanes.

Another significant disadvantage of shingles is that they are often not recycled and are made from crude oil and other chemicals. That means that every 15-20 years the shingles from your roof could end up in a landfill where it can take them up to 300 years to decompose.

Luckily there are a number of other roof material options available. Traditional materials like tile, shake, and slate all offer significantly longer lifespans with shake roofing being the shortest at 30 years. All three of these options are also considered to be eco-friendly.

Unfortunately, tile, shake, and slate also have significant drawbacks, most notably a much higher price tag including higher shipping costs because of their weight.

Metal Roofing Options

Shing Roof Replacement OptionsFor building owners who are interested in maximizing the service life of their roof while optimizing for return on investment, metal roofing solutions offer an attractive, long-term, cost-effective alternative to shingles.

For instance, metal roofing offers a decades-long lifespan of and requires minimal maintenance. Extremely durable, a properly installed metal roof is resistant to wind, hail, and fire.

Metal roofing is also typically manufactured from recycled material and is 100% recyclable at the end of its lifespan.

Lower utility costs also help make the return on investment from a metal roof better than other roofing materials. Learn more about recover roofing and growing your business by watching our free on-demand webinar
