Contractor Corner - Pinno Construction

We love connecting with our contractor partners to learn more about their businesses, their projects, and upcoming trends. Pinno Construction, based in Rosendale, Wisconsin, is an impressive McElroy Metal customer, and we enjoyed hearing about their growth and the shifts they are seeing in the industry.

This family-owned and operated company has been serving the Wisconsin area for more than 40 years. Over the years, they have built a team of nearly 80 craftsmen, draftsmen, engineers, designers, salesmen, and support staff, allowing Pinno to provide a high level of service to customers.

As a design-build firm, Pinno specializes in projects tailored to meet individual needs. Design-build construction allows the owner to partner with one business to complete their entire project; the designer and the contractor operate within one company and take the project from concept to final product. Their projects include custom-built new construction projects, renovations and additions, and roof and siding replacements.

They also build many barndominiums and are experts on the trends in these popular buildings.

We asked Curt Semenas, one of the owners and CEO of the company, and Rich Zimpel, Senior Project Manager and Sales Executive, to chat about their niche in barndominiums, important conversations they have with their customers, and their experience working with McElroy Metal.

What is your top-selling or most consistently requested project?

Curt: Barndominiums, for sure.”

Why do you think that barndominiums are popular?

Rich: “Barndominiums have many advantages that make them attractive options, including their customizability and low-maintenance exteriors.”

What are the benefits of partnering with Pinno Construction on a project?

Rich: “As a design-build firm, our customers can come to us for a turn-key experience, or if they prefer a more hands-on approach, we can work with them to their desired stage of completion. The many material options available to us from our partners like McElroy allow us to design each home to fit each customer's individual design needs and build projects that complement the natural landscape or stand out.”

What is the most popular addition or “extra” that customers are excited to add to a barndo?

Rich: “A large shop space for extra “toy” storage, workshops, personal gyms... there are many fun and useful ideas!”

Do you forecast any design or construction trends for these buildings?

Rich: “With changes to our population and economic climates, we see more and more customers looking for solutions to maximize the initial expense of building. Barndomiums can often provide these solutions in various ways while still functioning as your primary residence or vacation home.”

What do you feel are the most common "myths" or concerns homeowners express about installing a metal roof, and how do you address those concerns?

Curt: “Homeowners are often concerned about hail damage or metal overheating in the summer months, creating an unbalanced indoor temperature. Regarding concerns about hail, if a storm is strong enough to produce hail capable of damaging a metal roof, it would also damage an asphalt shingle roof. When a metal roof is damaged by hail, it will remain intact and weathertight, whereas a traditional shingled roof will sustain damage to the granules, which will eventually deteriorate and leak.

Regarding concerns about heat, we assure customers that metal material actually reflects sunlight away from the building, which minimizes additional heat and reduces energy costs. We also utilize McElroy Metal’s Cool Roof System for projects that are heavily exposed to the sun, which makes a significant improvement.”

What has been your experience working with McElroy Metal?

Curt: During our relationship with McElroy Metal, we have completed thousands of projects and experienced consistently high-quality products and customer service. We strive to give our customers the best products available, and with McElroy Metal we have been able to do that.
