A McElroy Minute with Frank Magalon

If you have ever been to our Houston facility, you were likely met by the smiling face of Cell Leader, Frank Magalon.

Frank joined the McElroy Metal team in 2017, making a significant career shift. After years of working in the restaurant industry, Frank was ready for a change - a big change! As Frank says, “I had never operated a crane or used a nail gun - I had a lot to learn!”

Over the years, Frank moved from crating bundles and serving as a slit line helper to various operating roles, and he is now proficient in all the lines on the floor. We enjoyed catching up with Frank and learning more about his role on the McElroy team!

What does a great day at work look like for you?

I like coming to work every day and helping the team get the job done. I enjoy helping the team solve any problems or issues that come up, and I feel good when I help them out.

What is your favorite part of your work day?

I will say that my favorite part of the day is lunchtime because that is when I get a chance to spend time with the team and get to know everyone better. Lunchtime is our fun time.

What do you enjoy most about working at McElroy Metal?

Here at the Houston plant, we encourage the culture of family - we help each other and treat everyone with respect.

Who has been your greatest mentor at McElroy Metal?

All of the people who showed me how to work on each line have been my mentors - they really did a good job. I will say that Raymond Bahena, my production manager, has been an important mentor, and I have learned a lot from him. My other mentor is Larry Bland; he has been in this industry for many years, and he has a lot of experience from which I have learned a lot.

What is your goal for your job this year?

My personal goal for this year is to bring any idea that can help not just the Houston plant but the whole company get better in some way.

Tell us a little bit about your family!

I have a beautiful wife and two beautiful daughters - they are my life, and that’s the reason I enjoy coming to work so that I can give them everything they deserve.
