Q&A with Rodney
What's your current role, and what does your day-to-day look like?
I serve as the Corporate Credit Manager. My responsibilities include overseeing creditworthiness assessments, managing credit approvals, collections, and debt recovery, and ensuring policy compliance. I also generate reports, support interdepartmental collaboration, and manage customer relationships. It's a multi-faceted role that I truly enjoy.
What do you enjoy most about working at McElroy Metal?
The people I work with and the nature of my work make each day enjoyable. There's a real sense of community and family here. McElroy values people, and you can feel that every day.
What's kept you at McElroy Metal for over two years?
It may have been two years, but it feels like I just got here. McElroy's strong foundation of values and the passion shared across the company are unique. When I was named one of Northwest Louisiana's "Top 40 Under 40" professionals by the Shreveport Chamber, McElroy cheered louder for me than I did for myself. That kind of support means a lot.
How would you describe McElroy Metal in three words?
Family. Passionate. Driven.
Who has been your biggest mentor here?
Amanda Haskins, our CFO. Her leadership and insight have had a significant impact on my professional growth. She's been a steady source of guidance and inspiration.
What advice would you give to new hires?
Be proactive and stay engaged. Attend meetings, ask questions, and take a genuine interest in the people and the culture. And always remember that how you work when no one is watching says the most about who you are.
What's been the biggest challenge in your career?
Navigating economic fluctuations in the finance world has been a major challenge. It requires finding innovative solutions that allow us to meet customer needs without compromising standards.
A Few Personal Insights
What are your hobbies or interests?
I love to travel---exploring new cultures, historical sites, and architectural landscapes. I find great value in understanding how people live and think around the world.
Disney World, Jamaica, and the Cayman Islands
Is there something most people might not know about you?
I'm a history enthusiast. History gives us lessons in human behavior and decision-making that are still relevant today. Studying the past helps guide us toward smarter choices in the future.
What's on your bucket list?
I've always wanted to become fluent in Spanish. I've started a few times but had to pause when life got busy. It's still a goal I plan to achieve.
What's one item you can't live without?
My AirPods. I cannot stand holding my phone to my ear, so I almost always use AirPods or speakerphone. They're incredibly convenient for multitasking---whether I'm at work, in the store, or at the gym.
Favorite travel destination?
Holland, specifically Amsterdam. The combination of rich history, unique canals, and the friendliness of the people made it unforgettable.
Where are you happiest?
It's a tie. I'm happiest either at a live sporting event with my wife---especially Ole Miss or LSU football---or at home during our Friday night family movie nights. Life gets busy, and those moments of stillness and connection with my family are something I really value.
