The management group in Adelanto recently kicked off an employee recognition program. We chatted with Matt Edwards, Operations Manager, to learn about the program and why they felt now was the right time. Matt shared, “we’ve come off a few rough years from a high-volume perspective, and we felt like the team deserved some recognition.”
He continued, “every manager went into this process wanting something unique, something all our own. Of equal importance, we wanted it to be memorable and have value to the employees. It had to be something they would want to show off, but it must also convey to them how much they are appreciated. One of the ideas the team came up with was a bobblehead that is customized to look like the winner. Ultimately, we decided to purchase two bobbleheads for each winner. One for the employee we selected and the other to stay at the facility to become part of our history.”
For their first award nominee, they selected Senior Production Manager (and 36-year employee) Mike Sabers. Matt explained why the committee felt Mike was a fitting first recipient. “Everyone loves Mike. The management team felt he portrays every quality that our great employees display. He’s well-respected, always willing to help, has a very big heart, and is happy to do anything he can to support someone. He is well known for his wild stories, racecar driving, and love for ketchup & peanut butter sandwiches. Overall, Mike has long been a critical component of Adelanto's success and has provided guidance, direction, and support to countless people throughout his time. He also has a great sense of humor!

Mike has also built many deep relationships within the company. One of these relationships is with his long-time coworker, Jose Orozco. Jose and Mike have worked together closely for 26 years.
Jose shares memories of his time working alongside Mike.
The Bobblehead award for Mike Sabers is so realistic that it showcases his signature smile and even includes his arm guards.
In closing, Matt shared the program's next steps. “The selection committee will likely develop metrics to identify future winners. In the beginning stages of the program, we plan to highlight long-term employees that set the standard while also showcasing those future long-term employees who exhibit those same valued standards.”
